Youth helps Ursuline weather change

Published 2/1/2008 8:32:23 AM by staff from dallasnews

Ursuline honored its eight player senior class Tuesday, but the real story behind the team this season is its youth.  Five freshman and four sophomores are regular contributors to a team that seeks its 18th straight state title.  Coach Jamie Cantrell said this is her first varsity team with more than three freshman.

Several players have missed games because of injuries, committments to club, regional and national teams, forcing Cantrell to use her younger players on a regular basis.  Ursuline was missing six starters in its district opener against Fort Worth Nolan which ended in a tie.  Ursuline is 14-2-2 including 9-0-1 in TAPPS District 1-6A.

"That speaks volumes for our future," Cantrell said.  "It makes me more confident about this team because they have been put in some pressure situations and have been able to overcome them."
