The TCU Womens soccer team looked to be going out of the Mountain West Tournament as the clock wound down in Las Vegas. A 63rd minute Utah goal looked to be enough to put the Utes thru. That is until Lizzy Karoly gave the Frogs new hope and sent the game into overtime with an 89th minute goal.
TCU looked to have scored in the first half, but the goal was flagged offside and the match went scoreless to halftime. Utah grabbed the lead after the break as they earned a penalty kick. Katy Reineke beat Kelsey Walters with the kick and Utah was on top.
Karoly, a junior from California, netted the equalizer in the 89th minute, beating Rogers off assists by Taylor and Caroline Starns. On the play, the junior slid into the box from about 15 yards out poking the ball into the lower right corner of the goal past Rogers to send the match into overtime.
TCU looked to carry the momemtum into the overtime but Utah only needed 25 seconds to secure the victory. The winning goal came by an own goal. On the play, the Utes took the opening touch and dribbled the length of the field before Lauren Hair crossed the ball into the box. TCU tried to clear the ball, but it took an unfortunate bounce off a Horned Frog defender into the back of the net to give Utah the hard-fought victory.
With the loss, TCU moved to 14-4-2 on the year and must wait until Monday to find out if it has received an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament.
