San Diego Sockers knock off Texas Outlaws in home opener

Published 11/16/2009 8:21:12 AM by staff from dallas

The San Diego Sockers ruined the home opener of the Texas Outlaws Sunday afternoon at NYTex Arena in Richland Hills.   The Sockers showed their elite status within the PASL indoor with a show of class scoring several mouth opening goals in their 7-5 win.  It was a packed house to cheer on the Outlaws in their PASL opener and the crowd was on their feet as the Outlaws opened the scoring when San Diego could not clear from in tight.

The Sockers would take over from there though as they were the more organized squad holding possession well and creating scoring opportunity after opportunity.  A power play at the very end of the first quarter would allow San Diego to tie the score as a nice flick to the back post was headed home with less than a second on the clock tying the game at 1-1.

San Diego took control in the 2nd period opening up a gap.   Outlaws keeper Luis Aldaba was helpless to stop the onslaught despite several wonderful saves.  The Texas Outlaws would never get closer than two goals the rest of the way.  Anthony Jama scored twice in the second half including a goal in the final seconds, but the Sockers were just the classier team on the night.

Luis Aldaba suffered a thigh injury late in the third period and the Outlaws were forced to play with a 6th attacker the whole 4th period.  It bothered San Diego as they sat back and cleared balls rather than building possession but a timeout halfway through the quarter got the Sockers more organized and they closed out the match.

The Texas Outlaws fall to 0-1 on the season and will head to Denver next for a game against the Denver Dynamite next weekend.  The San Diego Sockers move to 2-0 on the young season after defeating Denver Saturday night 12-6.
