The defending national champion UC Santa Barbara mens soccer team was the latest casualty in the 2007 NCAA mens soccer tournament.  UCSB gave a valiant effort but fell at Ohio State 4-3 in extra time.  Meanwhile, the tournament's 2 remaining favorites, Wake Forest and U Conn, both advanced easily.

Ohio State 4  UC Santa Barbara 3  extra time

U Conn 5  South Florida 0
O'Brian White notched a hat trick for the Huskies as they demolished South Florida.  Mike Pezza had a pair of assists in the win.

U Mass 3  Central Connectiut State 1
In a battle of cinderella's it was U Mass defending their home field and moving on.  Bryan Hogan scored 2 goals for U Mass as snow and cold conditions dominated the day.

Wake Forest 3  West Virginia 1
West Virginia held strong for a half but were unable to shut down the powerful Wake Forest offense as they scored 3 in the second half to take the home win.   West Virginia did throw a scare into the home side though as they earned a penalty to take the lead early in the 2nd half. Wake Forest responded with goals by Zack Schilawski and 2 from Cody Arnoux.

Virginia Tech 1  Old Dominion 0
Both teams had their share of offensive opportunities and solid defensive stands in the first half, but the game would be decided early. The Hokies pulled ahead 1-0 at the break with a goal in the 23rd minute while the Monarchs also had five solid shots at the goal in the half, but were unable to come away with a score

Bradley 3  Maryland 2  extra time
Bradley pulled another upset as they went to Maryland and won a thriller.  Last round Bradley took out Indiana.   Maryland looked to have the game on ice when Bradley scored twice in the final 3 minutes to send the match to extra time where a goal from Chris Cutshaw.

Illinois-Chicago 1  Creighton 0
Illinois-Chicago pulled another road win as a 74th minute goal from Ian Sarachan would stand up.

Notre Dame 2  Santa Clara 0
A second straight three-point match from Joseph Lapira (Lake Charles, La./Saint Louis Catholic) gave No. 10 seed Notre Dame a 2-0 triumph of seventh-seeded Santa Clara in the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship Round of 16 on Saturday night at Buck Shaw Stadium. The victory puts the Fighting Irish into the NCAA quarterfinals for the second straight season.

Elite Eight next weekend-

Notre Dame at Wake Forest
