FC Dallas host Chivas USA in possible playoff preview

Published 10/11/2007 6:50:39 AM by staff from mlsnet

It's not a stretch to say that this week's MLS Primetime Thursday could a playoff preview -- but both teams certainly have larger goals. Hosts FC Dallas come into the Pizza Hut Park matchup with their postseason future secure; the Hoops sit in third place in the Western Conference, but mathematically could still snatch home-field advantage in the conference semifinal series from in-state rival Houston Dynamo. Chivas USA come into the match in the lead in the West, three points ahead of Dynamo, and just three points in back of D.C. United for the Supporters' Shield with a game in hand over the current overall leaders.

Kenny Copper to return soon
As FC Dallas can now set its sights on a charge to the MLS Cup Playoffs, there could be a welcome return of Dallas native Kenny Cooper to the Hoops lineup.   Cooper did not play in Saturday's 3-1 victory in Columbus, a victory that clinched a playoff berth for FCD. But he could make his return to the starting 11 for his side as soon as Thursday against Chivas USA.  On Monday, he played 70 minutes in a scrimmage against FCD's under-17 team and came through that with no issue. And throughout the week, he has been getting work with the first team and could start Thursday's game at Pizza Hut Park.
