SMU men -
The eighth-ranked SMU men's soccer team battled the 22nd-ranked Saint Louis Billikens for 120 minutes, only to come away with a 1-1 tie at Westcott Field on the campus of SMU. St Louis scored first but Bruno Guarda evened the game on an 84th minute penalty kick. On Friday SMU hosts national power Virginia.
SMU women -
The Lady Mustangs defeated UT San Antonio 2-1 on Friday evening. It marked the program's 13th straight season opening win. Kimber Bailey and Allison Brill notched the goals in the win. SMU dominated UTSA statistically, with a 26-8 edge in shots and 13-3 in shots on goal.
North Texas women -
The UNT ladies opened the season with a pair of wins over the weekend. On Friday the girls defeated Texas Womens University 2-0 and on Sunday the team won a thriller over UT El Paso 4-3. Sophomore Kendall Juett scored two goals in the Sunday win.
TCU women -
The Lady Frogs opened the season in Austin on Friday night and lost to the 9th ranked Texas Longhorns 3-1. "I think it was a learning experience for us. I thought we played a good game against one of the better teams in the country," said head coach Dan Abdalla. Jenna Hayes netted the goal off an assist from Jackie Torda. On Sunday TCU bounced back to defeat Utah State 3-1 in Fort Worth. The goals were scored by Michelle Nguyen, Lizzy Karoly and Jackie Torda.
