Manchester United faced a stiff test from Spanish giants Barcelona in their semifinal matchup. A scoreless draw in Spain left Man U coming home feeling confident. A first half goal from Paul Scholes would stand up as Manchester advanced.
Chelsea had a much tougher time with Liverpool. Liverpool looked to have the upper hand as the first leg was at home and they had a lead thanks to Dirk Kuyt heading into injury time. The home crowd was stunned though as in the last minute John Arne Riise accidentally headed a ball into his own net to leave the match 1-1 heading to Chelsea. The second leg was lively and exciting as Chelsea grabbed a halftime lead through star Didier Drogba. Liverpool would pull even in the 2nd half though as Fernando Torres equalized. The match went to extra time where Chelsea took control thru a penalty kick from Frank Lampard and a goal from Drogba. Ryan Babel would pull the match to within 3-2, but Liverpool were unable to get the last goal they needed and Chelsea moves on.
