Dallas Soccer News - FC Dallas Coach, Dallas Coaching Position

FC Dallas' next coach will be local

FC Dallas shortened its list of candidates for its vacant coaching position, and all have ties to the Dallas area. But none have managed at the MLS level.

A team source confirmed the list of candidates to replace Colin Clarke includes SMU coach Schellas Hyndman, FC Dallas assistant coach Steve Morrow and former players Jeff Agoos and Tom Soehn.FC Dallas Coach

"When you see the most successful MLS coaches, they all have a common denominator", said FC Dallas president and general manager Michael Hitchcock. "They understand the American athlete, and they are great communicators and strong managers. Our candidates have these skills". Hitchcock will interview finalists in the next few days and hopes to make a decision next week.

Agoos represented the U.S. in the 1998 and 2002 World Cups. In a decade in the MLS as a player, he won three titles with D.C. United and two with San Jose.

Hyndman, SMU's coach for 23 years, has been sought before by FC Dallas' management. In 2003, he rejected the then-Dallas Burn's offer before Clarke was hired. Hyndman has a successful record as a college coach but has never headed a professional team.

Soehn, who was a defender with Dallas in 1997, has spent the last three years as an assistant for D.C. United. He also was an assistant for three years with the Chicago Fire.

Morrow, who played with Dallas in 2002-2003, had been Clarke's assistant the last two years.
