Beckham confirmed for Saturday night

The Los Angeles Galaxy confirmed Wednesday that English soccer star David Beckham will participate in Saturday's charity match against FC Dallas at Pizza Hut Park.  Galaxy spokesman Patrick Donelly said Beckham is fine after a physical match against Shanghai Hong Kong United during the club's recent Asian tour. He left the match with an injury in the 70th minute to a standing ovation.  "David played 90 minutes in the next game, scored on a penalty in overage time and didn't have major issues," Donelly said.

Beckham played the full 90 minutes in four of the Galaxy's five exhibition matches played in a two-week stretch in Hawaii, Seoul, Shanghai and Hong Kong.  He should arrive at Pizza Hut Park with additional motivation. His performance against FC Dallas should determine whether England national coach Fabio Capello will call him up for a March 26 friendly against France.  Should Beckham play, he will become the fifth player to have participated in 100 matches wearing England's jersey, joining Peter Shilton, Bobby Moore, Bobby Charlton and Billy Wright.

FC Dallas spokesman German Sferra said at least five British news organizations, including BBC Radio, have requested credentials for Saturday's match.  The friendly, which benefits the FC Dallas Foundation, will be the first opportunity for area fans to see Beckham at Pizza Hut Park. An injury kept him from traveling to the SuperLiga contest between the Galaxy and Dallas last July.
